By heyheyheywotisay Though I appreciate the two previous reviewers giving so much detail, I truly believe they exaggerate the difficulties of using this product. Overall, this is a "great" product. You will pay a little more because it is an Oreck, but quality construction, reliability, and the fact Oreck stands behind their products make the extra few dollars worth it. My reason for purchasing a steam cleaner was to clean stone and tile floors, "especially" the grout. Frankly, this unit does such an amazing job with this, if it did nothing else well, I would still be happy. I will no longer have to waste time and money on "very" expensive grout cleaners and sealers that do not work. Trust me, the Oreck get's grout and tile as clean as the day you had them installed. I have used it on shower glass, the marble in the shower, and a stovetop with great success. My hardwood floors look great, and like my stone and tile, I will never have to buy expensive floor cleaners again. The two micro-fiber cloths provided could definitely be larger, not sure what Oreck was thinking there. However, the cleaner is designed to use any micro-fiber cloth, so you can replace them anytime you like without having to buy them from Oreck. The clip system with the smaller cloths can be a bit of a challenge, but not so bad once you get the hang of it. Again, you can buy larger cloths at the local Walmart if they bother you that much. When fully filled with water, the unit can be heavy for some if trying to do a job above the head, or at the shoulders, (yes you can put it above your head without it leaking). However, the easy solution is don't fill it all the way when doing these type of jobs. PROS: Great construction. Large tank, and comes to steam quick. No expensive cleaners. No chemicals. Cleans tile and grout making it look like new. Hardwood floors shine! CONS: Supplied cloths small, and don't work "great" with clips. 155 of 161 people found the following review helpful. Not Ready For Prime Time By TechDiva Let me start by saying that I am a huge Oreck fan. I think that they make quality products that do what they say they do. However, I can't say that this product measures up. They are on the right track but have several details to work out yet. I already own a Shark steam mop but find the handle to be a little short (I am tall) and it doesn't hold enough water to do my whole kitchen area with one fill. I was quite excited to hear that Oreck had a steam mop. I went to the Oreck store and got a demo. I commented then that the 'pad' was loose and coming off while he mopped, and that the head of the mop was being uncooperative during the carpet refresh demo. He made excuses for all so I bought the steam mop. The mop holds about a gallon of water, and has a very tall handle and a long cord. All good things. The quality and construction are excellent. However, the first thing you notice is that it weighs more than your vaccuum. The pad is actually a piece of cotton duck fabric about a foot square with a strip of terry cloth like fabric down the center. Picture a baby diaper from 20 years ago. You lay that on the floor and use those yellow tabs in the picture to pinch the loose ends of the cloth under the yellow tab. I began to mop and noticed right away that the steam production is fast and strong, good, but the mop is very very hard to push. It is heavy and awkward to move and now I know why the salesman spent so much time showing me the shoulder movement I should use to push the mop back and fowards. The forward motion caused everything I picked up with the mop to be pushed into a line of bits and fuzz on the floor so I tried to turn the mop and capture the fuzzy stuff. Immediately the pad came unclipped. I repositioned the pad and tried again. Again the pad came off. I tried to mop around the bathroom toilet, pulling it longways along the side

Most helpful customer reviews 10 of 10 people found the following review helpful. ...and I do approve this message... By Matthew G. Sherwin As of the time I am writing this, this three pack set of Swiffer duster refills is more economical than buying three single boxes of refills on Amazon; and the duster refills never become so old that they "expire!" These fit easily onto the Swiffer duster handle and they really do an excellent job of trapping dust, hair or even small particles of food in hard to reach places. I am simply amazed that these dusters do so much more than just move the dust around--these things actually pick up the dust, hair and more and make `em stick to the duster like anything! This helps a lot when you can't vacuum certain places. While you can use these duster refills to dust, you can also use them to clean record albums. I am a huge music enthusiast and Swiffer dusters help tremendously when I need to clean the dust and light dirt residue off a vinyl record album. You can use the duster again and again on quite a few record albums before they begin to discolor; when the duster turns from a light blue to a light grey it's safe to assume that you need to switch to a new duster. You can also just use the duster without its handle. The duster refill fits easily in your hand without its handle; and this can be useful when you're dusting off a low coffee table or an end table that has a book on it; indeed the duster refill can often work well alone without its handle when cleaning other surfaces. However, I wouldn't use this with cleansers such as Windex. For example, when cleaning a mirror with glass cleaner you might prefer to use something else like a soft, absorbent yet inexpensive washcloth or perhaps a soft paper towel. I highly recommend the Swiffer duster refill packages for dusting around the house and other jobs--including what may be lesser known uses like cleaning old vinyl record albums. You can't go wrong! 4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Dusting can be fun! By Deborah Verlen The three ten count boxes of refills is cheaper than buying the regular product that 'dusts' the grocery shelves. This is my favorite duster. I have three extra large dogs so am constantly battling dust all over the place! These are great for every dusting job from the screen of the television set to the ceiling fan blades as well as furniture and molding. They seem to catch more particles of dust than a cloth of any type. Highly recommend! 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Dusting Has Never Been Easier! By Avid Reviewer Dust is a big problem for me because it triggers my allergies. I try to keep my environment as dust-free as possible by running an air filter 24/7 and by dusting frequently with a Swiffer duster. - The Swiffer Duster Works Traditional dusters and dusting cloths oftentimes just push dust around especially on surfaces where there's a heavy buildup of dust. Not the Swiffer. The Swiffer picks up dust so well that it requires just one or two passes to get any dusty surface completely free of dust. Once the dust is locked in the Swiffer, it stays locked in, so it won't get released back in the air. The flexibility and fluffiness of the Swiffer allow you to easily get around office equipment, kitchen appliances, and other objects into all the nooks and crannies. It really makes light work of dusting tabletops, window ledges, window blinds, and other surfaces. - How It Works Each Swiffer duster comes out of the box looking more like a pad. It needs to be pre-fluffed before use. To fluff, grab both ends of the pad with the dusting surface up. Do not stretch it taut; leave some slack in the middle. Next, shake the duster vigorously by moving both hands in a see-saw motion. Now, your duster is all fluffed up and ready for use! - Why It Works A newly fluffed up duster resembles cotton candy. The airy mass of material is made up of a lattice-like network of countless frizzy strands of

A Strong Sweeper By Michael Kerner The people at Shark and Euro-Pro cleaning companies have always known how to make so many great products with vacuums, and carpet sweepers. Nevertheless, when it comes down to it, it really is on how well the vacuum really lasts. Shark's previous cordless sweepers have all done a great job at picking up after everyday messes, but they have been some glitches. I was honestly very skeptical with the latest model when I saw it on television, and I liked it a lot, but as I started to use it, I was hoping for just a bit more. Here is my verdict. The Shark VX3 Cordless Sweeper is the latest in Euro-Pro's well-recieved carpet sweeper line. This one does a good job at picking up after pet hair and fuzz, and is very simple to setup. You can pick up actually a lot of pet hair, fuzz, or anything off your floors and carpets. It is easy to charge up, and does really works well. The no-mess dust cup is very simple to clean up, and easily removes all that was picked up from the floors. The vacuum is also very easy to carry around, and take from room to room, without feeling the drag of carrying around your vacuum and getting a backache. That is what I think, even though there really are a few problems that still make could've been a bit easier to pick up after. The first problem deals with the battery. ou have to really keep the sweeper plugged in to your outelt for at least a day, inorder to fully charge a the battery. The VX3's battery also could've had a bit stronger battery life than just an hour long. The second problem deals with the backsaver feature. While the VX3 does pick up well, and is easy to operate, I had a tricky time manuvering the VX3 with the backsaver handle. While the concept is ingenius at folding the handle to make it easier at picking up under the beds and those hard-to-reach areas, it is honestly a little bit harder to control and steer the sweeper. Still, despite a few problems with the Shark VX3 Cordless Sweeper, I still think it is a very good buy for anyone who wants a easier way to clean up after all those messes on the floor. It just does a great job at really cleaning up your floors and is great for small homes and apartments, or any home that works at a great pace. While you can get this though the As Seen On TV ads, you also can find this at your nearest Macy's for around $70, instead of getting both the VX3 and VX1 models like the infomercial says in its offer for $130. So, suck those problems on the floor away, and try this sweeper out. Useless for pet hair. :-( By Loren Gardner I was really optimistic about the Shark VX3 from the good reviews I'd read on Amazon and other sites about it. Unfortunately it just did not meet my needs. I have two very hairy dogs and hard wood floors in my house. I was hoping to find a cordless that I could just pull out every day or two to keep on top of the hair bunnies. The Shark, however, only pushes and blows the hair around. It only picked up maybe half of it, and the rest is still floating around out there. However, it did pick up my black lab's entire choke collar. And a corner of my rug. Bottom line: if you like dropping pounds of screws on your floor and pretending you're on an infomercial, this vacuum is for you. If you'd rather pick up normal things like hair, dust, and dirt, don't bother with the Shark. 34 of 34 people found the following review helpful. Great for Bald People Who Don't Have Pets! By James Rose We purchased this sweeper in hopes that it would provide an easy way to sweep our laminate floors free of dog hair and kid debris. Well, it does get the dog hair, but requires many passes. It ends up taking longer to sweep the floor with this sweeper than it would have to haul out the regular vacuum. It

By Chandler (update: This review was updated on 11-2-09 after I got to compare the Bissell as well as add notes about the Ladybugg steamer at the bottom, and then on 11-30 when I got to compare the SteamFast SF-140) I live in a neighborhood where EVERY home is "green built certified" this means that, to have that certification, the builder built no homes with carpet. All the main floors are polished concrete and the upper floors wood. The bathrooms all have tile and/or slate in every home. Because of this, as you could imagine, steam mops are quite the neccessity...not only because they get the hard surfaces better than anything else, but because they are also "green" and clean chemical free. I'll be honest, for us...that's a bonus but we weren't cleaning chemical free before. We like chemical free for our pet's paws but I'll confess I was mopping with chemicals before I got my steamer and just kept the pets out of the room while doing it because, up until then, I couldn't get it clean any other way. Okay, so that said...we decided to have a steamer show down to compare 6 different steamers because my friends and I knew as long as we are in these homes we are gonna have to have a steamer to get all these hard floors clean...we may as well figure out which one to buy next go round. Because my own home is graced with 2 cats, 3 dogs, and two gregarious cooks, my kitchen floor (which had not ever been cleaned by a steamer since my steamer had just arrived) was the testing spot. Mind you, I vaccuum twice per week and do a mega mop twice a week. I THOUGHT I had pretty clean floors in spite of my pet capacity. I thought wrong. These picked up dirt so well it's scary So here's the results: 1. steam mops are the mac daddys of clean floors. What these things picked up was tremendous and no comparison to my vigorous prior constant major mopping. 2. So now I'll break down the elements of each mop we used and then go into more detail about each at the end. We tried out: "S": The shark by Europro "E" The Envirosteamer by Eureka "H" the haan steamer "M" the Monster "B" The Bissell Green Tea "SF" The SteamFast SF-140 by SteamFast CORD LENGTH: so you don't have to stop and unplug and replug in somewhere else: Shark ( will be referred to as S):20 feet Envirosteamer (will be referred to as E): 25 feet Haan: (will be referred to as H)19'8" Monster (will be referred to as M): 25 feet Bissell (will be referred to as B) 17 feet SteamFast (will be referred to as SF): 18.7 ft. STEAM TEMPERATURE: this is a primary element. The hotter the steam, the more dirt picked up and hot steam will also kill parasites, mold and mildew and loosen more dirt: S 110 degrees. lame E 220 degrees. very hot H 212 degrees. very hot M 266 degrees. hottest...although the envirosteamer and haan seemed plenty hot enough. The shark didn't clean nearly as well and this was one reason. 110 degrees just isn't going to melt off stuck on grime. B 125 degrees. Note that, because of this low steam temperature the manual said that if I wanted to sanitize the floor or pick up caked on spills, I had to hold the steamer on the spot for 15 seconds but no more than 20 because that could damage some floors. Now I don't know about you, but if I can sanitize with one swipe of the other steamers because of their sanitizing temps my floor will be done WAY faster but I don't have a timer to worry about the extra 5 secons where my wood floors could get damaged. My sink water is hotter than this so it would take less time to use a regular mop if I have to hold the steamer on every spot of my floor for 15 seconds to santize. Just sayin SF: 137 degrees. Not hot enough to clean well and sanitize. BUILD: We found how it was made corresponded with issues with the steamer. The Shark, for example, was quite flimsy and they actually sell replacement

I actually look forward to mopping now. It's easy to use and doesnt push the dirt around. The pads absorb the dirt, the water, and the floor dries in seconds. I love it. Buying the replacement pads can be expensive but I found out that the H20 mop pads are cheaper and they can be used with the dirt devil steam mop and they work just as well. Be sure to buy the dirt devil steam mop with the carpet glider attachment because it is NOT sold separately. 6 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Cleans well, difficult to push By Cynthia160 My son got his bathroom floor super clean with this mop, but I find it a bit difficult to push. Still, it's well worth the purchase. Be sure to order additional covers. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Buyer be beware! By Lisa B. Dont even bother with this mop, its not worth it! Very, very hard to push. It would not get the dirt out of the indented pattern of my vinyl no matter how long I left it on it or pushed it back and forth. Does not swivel, the head is an awkward design so it doesnt fit into small spaces, very difficult to get along walls with, doesnt hold very much water (it took 13 refills to do my kitchen and dining room and I have a small home). Very disappointed with this mop. Iam taking it back and getting to shark brand, it cost more but hopefully it will be worth the extra money. See all 14 customer reviews...

By KarenFan I purchased this handy sweeper from Sears because I wanted something to pick up after the kids and our pets without having to lug the big vacuum out all the time just to clean up small messes. I was initially skeptical at first, but I knew I would be able to return it to Sears if I wasn't entirely satisfied. The setup and assembly was very quick. Just screw the wands together, attach it to the base, then charge it up. The first charge needs a full 16 hours to condition the batteries, thereafter the unit only needs 12 hours to recharge. I couldn't believe what this thing picked up. Everything from cat hair, litter, crumbs, and just about everything else that manages to find its way to the floor and carpet. Of course, sweepers aren't meant for big, hefty jobs, or for deep cleaning your carpets(this is a job for your vacuum), but they sure come in handy for in-between cleanups of small spills and messes. However, it's important to remember that sweepers are *NOT* vacuums. They have NO suction. They are designed to "sweep" the surface of your carpet and floors for quick, light pick-ups. That being said, I've been completely let down by Dustbusters and all those other "handvacs" that really didn't do anything but make a bunch of noise and lose their power after about 10 minutes of use. After using this, I figure I should only need to thoroughly vacuum once or twice a week now, instead of the usual everyday vacuuming that I used to do... Bissell has designed a real winner here. I'm just curious to see how long the unit and the batteries will last. For some reason, they're still using old NiCad technology here, which is famous for developing the "memory effect" that renders them all but useless after about a year or so. The manual also says the batteries are NOT replaceable and must be disposed of when the unit has reached its useful life... The sweeper has a one(1)year warranty, so we'll see how that works out. For now, I'm extremely pleased with this purchase, and would recommend this to anyone who needs a sweeper or simply wants a quick fix for lugging the main vacuum out all the time. Excellent product! 64 of 67 people found the following review helpful. Great for smooth, wood floors; mediocre for tile floors By Sheryl Miller We bought the sweeper based on its Consumer Reports rating and were a bit disappointed. We have three types of hard floors in our home: Pergo, tile with shallow grout, and tile with deep grout. The sweeper is perfect on the Pergo, okay on the tile with shallow grout, and only so-so on the tile with deep grout. The suction is not strong enough to pick up the dirt in the deep grout. Regardless of the floor type, long hair gets wrapped around the rotating bristles and must be cleaned by hand. On a positive note, the profile of the cleaner is very short, making it a breeze to get under overhanging cabinets, beds, etc. 47 of 48 people found the following review helpful. Ehhh. Better off using a real broom. By A. Marcos I purchased this little sweeper because the reviews here and on consumer Reports were pretty good. The unit was very easy to assemble and doesn't take up as much room as the others. It also holds a nice charge. Here's the phooey part: 1. The side brushes stopped working after the 1st day. After they stopped working, the side brushes started hoarding the dirt rather than feeding it into the sweeper. Prior to my purchase, I was under the assumption that the side brushes were powered by the sweeper...but it really operates on a push\pull system. As you push the sweeper...the brushes rotate. On my second day, I was pushing and it was no longer moving. 2. The dirt bin\catcher is too small and difficult to clean. I purchased this unit specifically for sweeping up dog hair. It picks up most of the stuff I go over (NOT ALL)...and when I go to empty it out...I have to pull

However, the pole/handle has the option to lengthen or shorten and mine was stuck. I almost sent it back, because when I pulled on it, it seemed like it was going to break. Eventually, it came out, though. Just be aware that it should get longer if you need it to. I did the kitchen floor last night. I wasn't "amazed" by the amount of dirt it picked up. It didn't pick up years of mud and grime, or change the color of my floor or anything! In fact, I will probably re-use the cloth provided once more before I wash it. But the floors really feel clean today, so I'm happy with the results. And- NO SOAP or CHEMICALS! I'm interested to see how the handheld steamer works on showers and corners and the like. I chose this steamer over all others because it DID include both the floor mop and the handheld option, so I hope I made the right decision! The overall "FEEL" of the product is definitely reminiscent of infomercial quality... it just doesn't feel like a Bissel or other household name would. But I'm willing to give it 30 days to prove itself to me. I'll update this as I've used it more! UPDATE: I used it over the weekend on medium-high to steam clean the glass shower door and frame in the house I just purchased. I cannot tell you how many years of mildew and mold and funk this thing blasted away from the frame of this door! I spent probably 2 hours cleaning the shower that day because I couldn't believe how much of that stuff was built up in there. So it definitely earned it's place in our house for that reason. The clothes steamer attachment, which also houses the squeegee attachment, seem to leak down my arm while I am trying to work, which is pretty annoying. And to do the shower job, I went through probably 15 paper towels (too icky for a regular towel) and 1 hand towel for wiping up the wetness. Bottom line- It's not the greatest product in the world, but I've found some very valid uses for this. No other brand right now offers the hand steamer/mop combo, and I think it is worth the money to have both options available and only one small product to store. Update #2: It no longer works and is being thrown out with the garbage this week. I had it for about a year and a half. Don't waste your money!!! I'm shopping a more reputable brand, and if I have to get a separate hand steamer from the mop, I guess that's just what I have to do! 56 of 56 people found the following review helpful. Works Very Well, Once You Get The Hang of It By Marvin Cohn We were about ready to return ours until we figured out that the lower the steam setting (even lower than the instructions), the less water is left on the floor or item (when used on items other than the floor) and the Steamfast's cleaning ability is not lessened by the lower setting. Also, if you are going to use it on both tile floors and wood floors in the same cleaning session and do not want to change pads, use it on the wood floors first at its lowest setting and then clean the tile second on medium. If you use the medium setting first, too much water will be left on whatever you use it afterward when you subsequently turn it down to low. Also, we have found that if you let the mop heat up on very low for a longer period of time, i.e., about a minute or so before using it, less water will be left on the floor. What would be great would be a setting that first heated up the mop with no steam. However, it works very well getting our floors "squeaky clean;" and the floors seem to stay clean much longer. We are keeping it. Now...what's with this complaint about weak handles from some other reviewers! The handle is made from thick tubular aluminum and is screwed into a deep socket of reinforced ABS plastic. You'd have to drive over it with a Mack Truck even to bend it...and I'd be more concerned about damage to the truck. We have also

Have realistic expectations, you won't be as disappointed By LawyerMom Do NOT buy this if you think it will replace your vacuum. I have a 2 year old and a VERY good vacuum on hand that I use once a week (though I probably should vacuum twice a week). For all the messes that occur in between (probably 2-3x a day), I use the Shark to make my life easier. I'm currently a stay at home mom with a toddler and she leaves crumbs EVERYWHERE. We live in a small apartment, so the dining room is a spit's throw from the living room and it's almost unavoidable to have toddlers (my kid, my kid's friends, my friends' kids...) carrying their muffins, snacks, crackers, pretzels around and about the living area. I got the Shark more because my daughter was terrified of loud sounds and my regular vacuum cleaner, but have found that the nice bonus is that it's so much easier to lug this one out 2-3 times a day to pick up crumbs right after snack time (and hence avoid having it ground into the rugs) than to pull out my heavy Bissell. Pros: It's lightweight, very quiet, convenient, and effective for picking up visible crumbs if used correctly. Cons: It doesn't do heavy-duty or deep cleaning; the price-tag can be steep; Shark sweepers are known to break down after a few months to a year. My mom has an older version of the Shark sweeper, which is much more quiet than this one. She's a waitress and uses it to tidy up the floor under the tables in between customers. Obviously, she's subjecting it to pretty heavy use, and she's now on her third one. Her recommendations on making it last a long as possible: clean the sweeper thoroughly after a few uses (that includes pulling out accumulated hair in the brushes and washing the collection bin) and charge the battery according to directions (do not allow to sit for longer than 19 hours at a time charging, you will reduce battery life). The Shark Vx3 is a little louder than hers. But I like the fact that it has two speed settings (supposedly for floor and carpet). The handle bends so that you can push it under furniture, which is a little helpful, but kinda awkward and (knowing that the Shark sweeper handles are notorious for breaking off) I prefer to not use it at all. The Shark Vx3 also has a little rotator brush on the side, which is supposed to pick up crumbs as you push it against the side of a wall, but I wish that they had thought to put a rotator brush on both sides. They claim also that you can push a button and dump out the collection cup without ever having to touch the dirt. This is true in theory, but in practice, the lid often catches or there is dirt stuck in the bin that you have to shake it out--so it's almost unavoidable to touch the bin or dirt. No big deal--just wash your hands afterwards. The bottom line: don't expect to replace your vacuum. And here's the KEY to use the sweeper most effectively -- push it SLOWLY and repeatedly over the pile of crumbs that you intend to pick up. I found that if you tried to push the sweeper back and forth quickly like a regular vacuum, it didn't pick up anything, just pushed the dirt around. Charged properly, and used for the right jobs, it's great By sandrift This sweeper is not a substitute for a vacuum cleaner, but it is a fantastic complement to a vacuum. Half the floors in our house are carpeted and the other half are hardwood or tile - I use the regular vacuum for the carpeted areas, but I use the Shark for the hardwood floors, kitchen, and laundry room areas. On the hard surfaces, the Shark is great at picking up dead bugs, bits of cat kibble, cat litter, bits of food, and other visible dirt and particles. I run it over low-pile throw rugs on the higher speed setting and it does okay (throw rugs are always a pain, even with vacuums). I don't really use it on

By Grandma B Having all hardwood and tile floors, I went on mission to find something convenient to clean with. I read dozens and dozens of reviews on every conceivable type of hard surface floor cleaner. There seems to be 2 complaints about this mop...short charge time, and it didn't get the floor "hands and knees" clean. Well, if you are that anal that you still mop on your hands and knees, more power to you! I wanted something that would clean the floor after a new puppy accident, grandchildren spills and tracked-in mud on a day to day basis. And this mop works great! I can clean all my floors twice on one charge (which is about 1600 square feet, so not huge), and as far as the complaint about the water not staying real hot, news flash, if you use a antibiotical cleaner, you don't need hot water. I have not had any streaks, it picks up all the water and leaves the floor just damp. Apparently, some buyers expected it to leave the floor totally dry...and just how would that be managed? Built in hair dryer? And no, it is not a vacuum; you have to broom sweep first. But who doesn't sweep before they mop? For the money, I think it's a great answer to the problem. It is easy to fill, easy to empty, and easy to store. I would (and have) recommend it to family and friends. If I had any suggestion for improvement, it would be to lower the brushes about a 1/4 inch to get even better scrubbing action. 25 of 25 people found the following review helpful. Works great on flat surfaces, but does have some limitations By Melissa I bought this electric mop for a very specific purpose. I have a 3'x5' area of my kitchen that needs mopped everyday. It's where my cat's litter box and food is. Our cat eats an all raw diet, which means he usually gets raw meat on the floor where he's been tackling a chicken neck. Getting the mop out everyday is a pain. So, I went in search of a solution. What I really wanted was a machine that would vacuum the litter and mop that area. The only one I found that would do both was the Bissell Flip Eaze (http://www.amazon.com/Bissell-Flip-Eaze-Upright-Vacuum/dp/B000H6D2UW/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1221329733&sr=1-7). However, the reviews were very mixed and it used pads which I would need to keep ready. For those to reasons, I decided to pass. I also looked at Swiffers. I had a Swiffer wet mop back when they first came out. It most likely would have worked fine for this project, but it has an ongoing expense with the replacement pads costing about .30 a day. For my use, over the course of a year that's ~100.00. After a weekend of researching other machines, I decided to go with the Hoover. I have a full size Hoover carpet cleaner and am well satisfied with it. For what I bought this one for, I'm extremely happy with it. It easily handles the morning clean up of the kitchen (which is linoleum). I've used it to clean my whole kitchen (~200 sq. ft.) and it works very well. I've had good results using it on the tile in my utility room as well. However, it does not work well on the tile in my entry hall. The tile in my utility room is a 12 inch tile with a shallow, narrow grout. A little deeper than what you would have in most bathroom showers. The tile in my entry hall is 9", with beveled edges and a deep, wide grout. When using the electric mop it is just a little narrower than the tiles, which means the wheels run on the edge of it which makes it difficult to use. While the suction is great on the flatter surfaces, it's not strong enough to pull the water from the deeper grout. As far as battery life, it gets about 20 minutes of use. If my floor is pretty clean, I can do my entire kitchen on a single charge, but it does struggle towards the end and I have to work fast. My sister has a larger tiled area and used it on her floor for heavier cleaning. She said it did a pretty good job, but she did have to charge it

By Kara I needed a good working, and affordable vac to clean up my small college dorm room's carpet (It's not a very plush carpet). This vac surprised me! So far it's been working out fantastic! The long handle is detachable and so is the top head so you can convert it into the familiar dust buster. It's small enough to store under a bed in a dorm room. It has a pointed wand attachment too. This certainly isn't something you would want to use as a main vac for a house, but it's great for the dorm. The cord length seems to work great for my 16'x12' dorm room--so it does NOT operate as a cordless, so no worries about the battery dying out on you. It's bagless so the canister has to be emptied... which brings me to my only complaint about it... everything seems to get stuck to the filter... hair, dust and dirt... so it's not just a matter of emptying the canister. You have to pick everything off the filter, and it has a tendency to get inverted so you have to pull it out to clean it good. So my suggestion is to clean it over an open trash can... and for the dust you just can't seem to pick off, use a lint roller on the filter and it seems to clean it up well. (which is why I give it 4 stars instead of 5) Otherwise, great vac for the price paid (Approximately $20 at Wal-mart). 8 of 8 people found the following review helpful. EXCELLENT!!! By Jane K. I purchased this product at a local store for $20. I have all hardwood floors, 3 dogs, an African Grey Parrot, and will tell you this product does a great job! Before, I would use a dust mop in between regular vacuuming and this cuts the time in half, yes half! When done, you just empty the cup, wipe it out, clean the filter put it away. WORTH EVERY PENNY. 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Simple, Lightweight Stick Vac That Just Plain Works By J. M. Taylor I was researching stick vacuums for my parents who have a multi-level home with a mix of carpet, linoleum and hardwood floors. The main vacuum, also a Bissell Bissell 82H1 Cleanview Helix Bagless Upright Vacuum Cleaner (which has been fantastic by the way)is a bit too large to pull out for spot cleans. I initially had purchased a Shark cordless, but I only got a few minutes out of it before the suction power (from the Ni-Cd battery) pooped out. It was also cumbersome to switch to a hand vac. The Feather weight is a wonderful replacement. After the battery debacle, I knew I wanted a corded vac. This Bissell has a fairly generously sized cord so I can move around nearly the whole kitchen on one outlet. The detachable handle is tall enough for me (I'm about six feet even), and the cord wraps around the molded hooks nicely when not in use. The floor attachment does NOT swivel, but that's not really a huge issue in terms of usage - the vac is so lightweight it's inherently maneuverable. The floor attachment has no 'beater bar' to send debris flying. On hard surfaces this is great because the suction alone is more than ample to pick up even old, nasty Cheerios. Performance of thick carpet is fairly limited though... The floor attachment does not 'lock' onto the vacuum body, which I was at first concerned about. However, the fit is excellent and snug so I can push and pull the vac across the floor with out it coming apart. Using the vacuum as a 'dustbuster' (without the handle or floor attachment) is great as well - the nozzle is wide enough to get debris on stairs and what not, and the included edge cleaner is great for getting stuff out of hard-to-reach areas. Cleaning is a snap - the filter is washable, and the bagless dirt trap keeps everything contained well. To clean the filter, I like to flick it gently from the inside to avoid touching the junk that's picked up off the floor. In fact that's really the only major downside to this cleaner - there may be more physical contact with the picked up debris

Amazon.com Review The Bissell Flip-It Select promises two hard-surface cleaners in one: a dry vacuum for picking up crumbs and a heated wet-mop for sticky spills. Replacing broom, dustpan, vacuum cleaner, mop, and bucket in one fell stroke, this slender, lightweight cleaner effectively simplifies and saves space, especially in crowded spaces like kitchens. Start by using it as a regular stick vacuum to clear away small debris. To change functions, simply turn the unit around, switching on the built-in heater for added cleaning power. The Flip-It has separate clean and dirty water tanks, so unlike the traditional mop-bucket combo, you're always working with freshly heated, unsoiled water, and it leaves floor dry once they've been cleaned. It also comes with two different wet cleaning surfaces, a soft brush for tile or other surfaces with grout and crevices, and the Gentle Clean pad for babying delicate surfaces like hardwood or laminates. The Flip-It's dual-function cleaning proves especially convenient on smaller areas and for touchups, but mastering the wet-mop function can be tricky, and many users find it hard to push in wet mode until the floor has been saturated with liquid. Technique (and practice) help the process considerably: press the trigger down on the forward stroke to spray cleaning fluid, then release it as you pull back so the squeegee dries the floor. The Flip-It Select is easy to maintain; both filter and brushes clean up easily under running water and the Gentle Clean pad can go straight into the washing machine. It even stores ready to use with water and cleaning fluid in the tank. Weighing in at just ten pounds, the unit is powered by a nine-amp motor when using heat, three amps without, and includes trial sizes of hard-surface and wood-floor cleaners as well as an extra Gentle Clean pad. The power cord features a quick-release wrap as well as a clip for storage. Compact, maneuverable, and ergonomically designed, the Flip-It Select is 44 inches tall, with a base measuring 11 inches long and 8 inches wide, and comes backed by a limited one-year warranty. --Mary Park

Great for my hardwood floors By ladybug Whether I used a regular mop and bucket, my swiffer wet jet, or my hoover steam vac, I always ended up with a haze on my hardwood floors that I would clean off with a wipe or furniture polish. This is the first machine that leaves my floor shiny and without a haze. It is worth it just for that!!! I also like the job it does on my lineoleum. The first couple of times I used it on what I thought were clean floors because I had recently mopped them, I was surprised at how dirty the water was. After using this as my primary means to clean my floors (two maybe three times a week depending on traffic and what is going on in my household) I notice that my floors not only look cleaner, but also feel much cleaner on the few occassions when I am not wearing house slippers. This is so much better than the regular mopping. I have read other reviews on the flip-it regarding water being left on the floor; when that does happen, I just go back over that section so that it will be taken care of. For the most part I don't care about a little water on the floor because I would have so much more if I had the mop and bucket or used my steam vac. I am sold! 28 of 28 people found the following review helpful. Flip-it versus Hoover Spin Scrub By Comdet I was torn between the Hoover and Bissell models - each seemed to have good and bad points. So I got both, with the idea that I'd return the one that was less capable to do the job. What I found was that both have different pluses, and ended up keeping them both. The Spinscrub has the advantage in cleaning power. The spinning brushes do a better job on getting tile floors clean, especially rough surface tile. It's also more sturdily built - feels more solid (although that sometimes does not translate into longevity). It's the one I use for large tile expanses, such as in the kitchen and basement. But, the 15 inch width is a drawback in tighter spaces, such as bathrooms. The Flip-it excels in maneuverability - perfect for getting around obstacles (such as the toilet). Although it lacks spinning brushes, it has the advantage of a cloth pad which does a great job on smooth surfaces. The heat also helps out, especially with sticky messes. It doesn't turn the water to steam, but clearly kicks up the temp (I believe the spec's say 25 degrees). I found the best way to use it is to start with the cloth pad attached. That helps even out the water distribution and also helps capture crumbs, pet hair, etc. After one pass with the cloth attached, remove it and put in the scrubby pad. That helps get the floor 99% dry (smooth surfaces) or 90% dry (rough surfaces). The cloth pad really shines (no pun intended) when it comes to hardwood or laminate floors. Does a far better job than the Hoover in cleaning and water suction. I don't use the Hoover at all anymore on smooth floors regardless of the size of the room. It may take a bit longer with the Flip-it due to its smaller size, but the end result is much better. Both are about equal when it comes to disassembly and cleaning - a few parts to take out and clean, but nothing major. Cleaning the unit after using it is very important to keep the crud out of the seals to prevent leaks and clogs. Both have a washable filter, and both require that you dry the filter before using it again (tip - get an extra filter so you're never without a dry, clean filter). I tend to favor the smell of the Bissell cleaning solution, but the Hoover stuff is pretty good - both have a nice "fresh" smell. Both brands clean equally well, and are priced about the same. Lowes carries the Bissell brand; Walmart carries Hoover (at least in my area). Bissell tends to be a nicer company when it comes to support. They offer replacement parts and supplies on their website at reasonable prices, and answer emails if you have questions. Hoover is not as responsive, and their

Bagged Stick Vac By Reckless Consumer *Note that the same model is available on Amazon for a different price, I'm not sure why. *The only difference between the S163 and S168 is the HEPA filter on the S168...I found it was significantly cheaper to buy the S163 and add the HEPA filer purchased separately. It is extremely difficult to find a bagged stick vac. For those of us with allergies (or just aversion to dust) "bagless" vacuums are not attractive. Dumping the dust bin re-releases lots of junk (especially the smallest, lightest particles) back into the air. I bought the Miele S163 simply because it was the only bagged stick vac I could find several years ago. I am thrilled with it. It has very strong suction and rolls easily across our hardwood floors. It does not blow or push around crumbs like many other vacuums, it actually picks them up on the first pass. The chamber is sealed and after several years of use the inside of the vac is literally like new, every speck of dust has been trapped in the bag or filter. Because I only use mine on hard floors, I find I don't have to change the bag more often than our large canister vac (which we use for carpets). Even very dirty hard floors don't generate nearly as much "waste" as carpets, and I generally change the S163 bag every month, even though it's usually not full. I have a cat and two Cheerio-eating children and use the vac at least once per day. Bottom line: this vacuum has kept my kitchen floor crumb-free for several years and shows no sign of quitting anytime soon. 16 of 19 people found the following review helpful. Scratches wood floors!! By Allyson M. Saad I own a Miele canister vac as well and always used it on my wood floors with the floor attachment. Then I was talked into buying this cute green stick vac so I would always have a floor vac "ready to go" (I do a lot of floor cleaning with 3 boys!). Well, it worked fine for about 6 months, then some metal pieces popped out on the head while I was using it and scratched my floor badly. The vacuum is also heavy and doesn't lean easily against things; mine slipped down and promptly cracked the plastic floor attachment. Miele vacuums vacuum well but their plastic is defective. I've owned slightly cheaper Kenmore's that vacuum almost as well but are a lot more durable. Also, you CAN disconnect the wand from the body and use it as a hand vac, but it is very heavy. I wanted to replace my Shark cordless sweeper that was wearing out. The Dirt Devil was more flimsy than the Shark. It didn't pick up as well. The entire top of the sweeper was covered with dust after I used it; this never happened with the Shark. It was hard to turn on and off with my foot compared to the Shark. The final problem occurred after I had used it for less than a week and the left wheel broke off. I returned it for a refund. Although my experience with this product was disappointing, as always, my experience with Amazon was completely satisfactory. They have a return policy with no questions asked and send you a return mailing label. I find myself buying more and more from Amazon because of their superior customer service. 17 of 18 people found the following review helpful. Great Little Sweeper By D. Danko This model Dirt Devil is a great little sweeper; it fits under chairs and other furniture; and it is lightweight and quiet. It runs quite a while on a single charge. 7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. We will never go back to regular sweeping! Great for the elderly. By Chicken Lips I bought this for my elderly mom to help out with basic cleanup since the vacuum is too heavy for her, and she can't bend her back very well to do regular sweeping. To her, this sweeper is a god-send. It picks up everything rather well from carpets and the bare kitchen floor. It is super light and maneuvers around very easily. Also, Amazon's price is half of what we saw at the store! Awesome sweeper for fast cleanup between vacuumings. See all 16 customer reviews...

Place the handle on the unit and insert one screw to secure it in place. After filling the clean tank with water and solution you are ready to clean. Plus, the lightweight cleaner's low-profile head easily accesses hard-to-reach spaces and corners under beds, couches, and other furniture. The Bissell Story Bissell's history dates back to the mid-1800s in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where Anna and Melville Bissell owned a small crockery shop. While cleaning up one day, Anna grew frustrated with the sawdust in the carpet. After she presented the problem to Melville, he designed and constructed the company's first carpet sweeper, which subsequently was patented in 1876. Following Melville Bissell's death in 1889, Anna Bissell became America's first female corporate CEO. The Bissell company has evolved into a leader in carpet cleaning, introducing one of the first carpet shampooers in 1956, as well as the Big Green Clean Machine in 1992 and the Spot Lifter in 1998. Throughout the company's history, it has continually focused on redefining the concept of clean with a large family of innovative cleaning products.
Most helpful customer reviews 212 of 213 people found the following review helpful. I have 3 shedding dogs and a tough floor to clean. By Judy L. I have 3 large dogs that drool any water left in their mouths after a drink, and a large textured ceramic floor that collects dirt in the grooves of the texture. I bought a Hoover Floor-mate in hopes of eliminating the mop and bucket, and because I felt that after a while I was pushing around dirty water. The Floor-mate did pick up a lot of dirt, but it is too large to get under cabinets and the brushes are too soft and too high to get into the crevices of the texture in the ceramic. I decided to try the Flip-It because it is supposed to vacuum and wash the floor. First of all, you really have to vacuum first and clean the receptacle before washing. Otherwise, you will end up with a yucky mess to clean from the receptable and filter. I didn't find that the vacuum blew the hair as one other buy had reported, but I agree that it doesn't vacuum very well. It picked up some hair and small crumbs, but didn't get all of it. This was obvious when I washed the floor. More hair was picked up in the washing process. With the rubber brush and a little pressure, this cleaner did get much more of the dirt out of the floor texture. I still had to scrub some with the brush on the unit, but I would have to do the same with a sponge mop. At least with this cleaner, the dirty water is vacuumed up and clean solution is dispensed for the next section. Even with my uneven floor, the unit did pick up the water, and the floor dried quickly. The first floor bathroom, hall, kitchen, and foyer are pretty large, kitchen alone is about 12' x 18'. I had to refill the cleaner 3 times. I filled the unit with hot water from the tap. So maybe that helped. I don't think this is too bad because I had to refill the Floor-mate as many times and it didn't get the floor as clean. I wouldn't use this unit as a vacuum again, but as a hard floor cleaner, I think it works well on floors that need more scrubbing than a soft brush. 427 of 441 people found the following review helpful. Has serious drawbacks By M. Popov Purchased the Flip-It a couple of days ago, so my review is based on only one cleaning of kitchen tile floor. But it was enough to reveal serious flaws in the design and manufacturing of this device. Overall, I'm not satisfied with this unit, mainly for three reasons: (1) due to the very poor dry pick-up due to the design flaw of air blowing down and dispersing the dirt you are supposed to pick-up, (2) the fact that you need to use a rag or mop to dry after the last square foot of floor space cleaned, (3) using this unit in a relatively small area is actually more difficult and considerably slower than using a mop, unless you leave the floor wet, which defeats the purpose of the drying function. The idea to have separate dedicated dry vacuum side and wet pick-up side was what initially sold me on this unit. I was comparing to the Hoover Floor Mate models about which I read that dry pick-up is not very good, plus they are 60%-70% more expensive than the Bissell. The unit indeed is very easy to assemble and was ready to use in less than 5 minutes after attaching the handle with one screw. The handle was a bit squeaky due to all screws being rather loose, so I tightened them about a 1/4 turn of the screwdriver to remedy this. The build quality seems fine and the motor noise acceptable (at least compared to the overly noisy full-size Hoover SteamVac I got for carpets, which by the way cleans carpets very well). I noticed that the amperage rating of this unit is only 3 amps. Compare this to the 10-12 amps of most regular vacuums or carpet cleaners (or the 5 or more amps on wet/dry vacs you might use in your garage) and you will get an idea of the suction power. It turned later that indeed it is not very strong (but it would have been adequate if not for the serious design problem which rendered the unit useless for
